Wells Fargo statement to Excel

Wells Fargo is where a lot of small-business checking lives, and a bank-statement lender will ask for 12 or 24 months of exactly those statements. This guide covers getting the PDFs out of Wells Fargo Online, converting them to Excel or CSV in your browser, and confirming each statement came through complete before anyone else reads it.

Downloading the PDF from Wells Fargo

Sign on to Wells Fargo Online, open the account, and go to the statements and documents area (the label is along the lines of "Statements & Documents"). Choose the statement period and save the PDF. Statements are produced monthly for checking and, depending on the product, monthly or quarterly for savings; a lender wants the checking account that your income lands in, month by month. Wells Fargo keeps a multi-year archive online, enough for a 24-month set. The mobile app offers the same documents, but saving twelve or twenty-four files is quicker on a computer, and a desktop browser is also where you will use the tool.

Business and personal accounts under one sign-on each have their own statements. Keep them in separate folders; a lender will read a business account with an expense factor and a personal account without one, and the tool's lender view has the same switch.

Why not a scan or a screenshot

The tool reads the text inside the PDF. Wells Fargo's own statement PDF has that text; a scanned paper statement, a photo, or a PDF made from a scan does not, and the tool will say it found no text layer. Scanned statements are not supported yet. Exporting the activity list from online banking is not the same either: it gives you transactions but not the statement's printed beginning and ending balances, and without those there is nothing to reconcile against. Lenders have the same preference for the same reason.

What the tool extracts

Each statement gives the account, the period, the beginning and ending balance from the summary, and one row per transaction: date, the bank's description (purchase authorizations with the merchant and the card ending, recurring payments, direct deposits, Zelle and online transfers with the other account's suffix, checks, monthly service fees), the amount as a debit or a credit, and a running balance. Wells Fargo statements may print the balance once per day rather than after every transaction; where the statement shows no balance for a row, the balance check still works from the printed beginning and ending figures, which is what matters. Categories are assigned from the description, and a change on one row applies to every row with the same payee.

The parser is built around how statement tables are laid out (column headings, amount positions, sign conventions) rather than around a list of banks. It has been checked against public sample PDFs from banks and synthetic statements, not against a Wells Fargo statement specifically. The balance check below is how you know a given statement was read completely.

Check the reconciliation line

After the rows load, a line under the table says how many statements add up: for each file, beginning balance plus the credits found minus the debits found should equal the ending balance. A statement that does not add up is named. Check the page count against the "page X of Y" on the statement first, since a missing page is the usual cause; Wells Fargo statements run to several pages when a business account is busy, and the last page may hold the final transactions, not just notices. If every page is present and a statement still does not reconcile, the rating buttons under the table let you report the kind of error (rows missing, wrong sign, wrong category, wrong totals) without sending the statement itself.

Export to Excel

Export Excel produces an .xlsx file and Export CSV a comma-separated file with the columns Date, Description, Category, Debit, Credit, Balance, Statement and Page. For a business account the Category column is where the time goes: once vendors, payroll, fuel and client payments are sorted, a pivot table by month and category is a usable profit-and-loss sketch, and the Statement and Page columns let a bookkeeper or a CPA trace any row to the source.

Questions

Can I drop all 24 months at once? Yes. The tool reads up to 24 statements in one go, sorts the rows by date across all of them, and the lender view shows the 24-month figure once every month is present.

What about Wells Fargo credit card statements? They are read as text PDFs like any other, with charges as debits and payments as credits. The lender view treats credits as deposits, so it is meant for checking and savings statements, not cards.

The statement PDF has a password. Password-protected PDFs are not supported. Open the file in a PDF viewer, enter the password, save a copy without it, and drop the copy.

Where do the statements go? They stay on your computer. Reading, categorising and writing the Excel file all happen in your browser; nothing is uploaded. The privacy page lists the single content-free usage event that is recorded.
